I have a plastic crate filled with components like that that I use for prototyping/brainstorming/whatnot. It started out originally at Gazillion, it was used for interviews there (game designers had to design a game in an hour then teach the interviewing designers how to play and then play at least some of it in 45 minutes). Great fun and worked well I thought for seeing how game designers thought. I liked designing my game for that interview too.
