Where've I been? Deep, deep in researchland.
Post C4Education (Battlefront won the Emmy again last week, and SuperMe won a MEGA the week before, yay!), I'm relishing the peace and quiet, to be honest. For now, anyway. And meanwhile we're printing fun.
Stuff of note: maybe you can help?
Doll hair is an issue. We'd like mohair and similar, but it's hard to find out where to start. Nylon is too China-centric: we're trying to avoid long distance. Wigmakers seem to have all but disappeared. Rooting is an arcane art.
Eyes, it seems, you simply stockpile. I suspect they're all made in China too, but they're less of an issue for now: ultimately, they wouldn't be hard to 3Dprint, if a tiny bit fiddly. Unlike hair, which is currently pretty much impossible.
That said..
3D printing in wood "flour".
Colorisation is coming beyond zCorp: Eos do a lot of medical stuff, so they have hearing-aid brown as a colour option for bioplastics. It's a start.
Did you see the bronze-infused stainless steel femur that iMaterialise printed for us? That's indicative of what you can make as little, metal charms. Or just print a Terminator.
Fun 3D developments in HTML5.
We're going to be looking for an artist(s) soon to give us a hand, someone fluent in 3D but clever with 2D, and who's good at character design. More when we have the proper brief written.
