I just got sent an invite to this: SecondFest, presented by the Guardian and Intel, is a festival in Second Life, going on all this weekend. Unfortunately I'm going to be on a plane to Brussels, got a speech to do, but here's in case you don't have to schlep a million miles in a compressed cigar tube at the weekend:
I'm going to post the line-up, because it's really long and really quite amazing. I can't work out whether there's some real-life fest going on this weekend and this is relaying content from there, or whether this is put on just in Second Life. It seems to be just the latter, which is frankly boggling (and completely brilliant), check it out:

I am SERIOUSLY bloody IMPRESSED.
I'm as sick as the next person of hearing about Second Life these days, but finally someone's gone and sorted out something that sounds both fun and useful, and joyful too. Sheer cultural goodness. It's not another bloody tax service's digi-office or corporate multinational trying to flog their realworld goods in digital form.
Well done, grauniad-and-intel, bloody well done.
This actually made me re-install Second Life and go back to my neon-clothed avatar (who I found stranded underwater in a lake)... Unfortunately I couldn't find the Intel islands where the Secondfest is built. After playing WoW for such a long time, Second Life is such a chore to navigate!

Cheers Taylor - it's the latter; it's all performance, just for SecondFest. Phew. You didn't mention the SL Ballet or the movies or the theatre performances or.. oh it hurts me ;)
Trevor - if you need to find the rirect route to the festival, you can hop on the back of this link:

(Hope you don't mind me posting that up Alice)

Mmm... such a good line up. This is the kind of thing that makes me curse my 56k modem.

Thanks for the info Aleks! Unfortunately I only have my sluggish laptop over the weekend so I wasn't able to check it out. I've heard very positive reviews though and, I'll have to admit, the first time Second Life has caught my interest in a long while.
I seem to hear someone talking about them every day now that they're setting up an office down here in Brighton. Maybe that's another reason I feel obliged to check it out all over again!

You were in Brussels? What did I miss??
Posted by: Clopin | July 10, 2007 at 11:59
Oh gosh, nothing - I did a speech to NATO. There was no games event on or anything, don't worry :)
Posted by: Alice | July 10, 2007 at 15:20
Oh ok. You got me worried there for a sec...
Posted by: Clopin | July 10, 2007 at 15:40
That little exchange proves games events > NATO.
