Curiously, CBS & Konami have come up with a Dance Dance Revolution inspired show for Saturday morning slumberparty TV, where teens get to dance off against each other. This is supposed to promote healthy living rather than couch-potato tendencies, although it's unclear whether the teen viewers will be simply watching the show (to be "inspired" to get moving, later on) or actually dancing along with it on their own dancemats.
In Dance Revolution, ‘tweens’ and teens bring their freshest moves to this sensational new dance competition where teams of dancers display their innovative routines. Dance Revolution will also offer onscreen visuals that constantly encourage viewer participation by demonstrating specific dance moves and steps.
The latter would be totally cool, although slightly technically complex. In fact, I can't work out how on earth they'd manage it. Not actually possible, yet, is it? I guess they'll just be showing off 'moves' then, for you to bop about to in general.
Link.
A lot of the DDR kids will actually practice the moves without a mat while watching other people play DDR. So if they just showed the arrows on-screen it should work. Although not entirely interactive, it's at least not passive.
