Matthew Johnston has a flickrset up of comparisons between Liberty City landmarks and those of its inspiration, New York. In a way, it's a shame that Liberty City isn't a direct map of NYC, because geographically-speaking, that'd be pretty educational!
Might've helped me get my bearings while recently wandering the grid-maze that is NYC. I think I saw this church.
Empire State building. Definitely saw the base of this one, it's got cheesy tourist signs all over it shouting THIS IS THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING!
Good stream, this fella. All pics under Creative Commons some rights reserved; nice job, Matthew!
(Thanks Kim!)

If 'this church' is opposite Rockefeller Plaza, which I think it is, then it's St Pat's, dear Alice.
Though Rockstar North's explanation of why Liberty City's inexact makes sense: you get a better feel of the city if you tighten the map.
