Iestyn points the way to this, the Alternativa3D engine - a 3D Flash engine, no shockwave required...
It's completely fantastic. There's an even later version out, but you need Flash player 10 to have a look, and I don't yet. If you do, knock yourself out.
Imagine the possibilities!
