Can they not just go play Second Life like all the other avatar-sex loving people?

"...a private WoW server (how do you DO that??)"
I'm fascinated by private servers- they remind me of the parable of the blind men and the elephant. Players look at the data coming from the "real" servers and guess at what sort of algorithms are producing that particular output, and then make their own server software that produces similar responses. The end result is simplified and not particularly like the "real thing"(which is part of what makes it interesting). It's a counterfeit made by people who have never actually seen the original...
In this case, I'd say the process of creating a private server is more interesting than what they've done with it. ;)

I've never been particularly impressed by the male nelf packages... now the Taurens...

I couldn't agree more Bob, considering how locked down things like WoW are, to get a server working seems.. well.. like complete magic to me. But then again I'm not a network traffic sniffing, algorithm-extrapolating genius.

Bah.

Blizzard provides tools that will allow you to create characters and run them around in the world on one computer, perhaps they also provide tools to make a private server, or that might not even be needed to produce these videos. I've seen other videos made using the WoW models, and the maker credited the Blizzard tools.
