Dalek webcam

It's a webcam! I'm not sure how you're supposed to balance this on top of your flatscreen monitor, though. Hold it yorick-style, I suppose.

The BBC is well on its way to taking a leaf out of the Star Wars book in terms of milking it.. but at least there aren't dalek slippers yet.

(Please tell me there aren't.)

UPDATE: Oh.

Reach Out Central: a game for tough times

Reach Out Central is designed - with the help of $500K Australian from the Sony Foundation (! that's nice) - to help kids who might struggle with negative feelings or depression, by role-playing life situations.

Reach Out Central (ROC) is an interactive program that's designed to help you explore how your thinking, behaviour and feelings all interact with each other. Choose your own character and try out different ways of reacting to real-life situations. On the way, you might change the way you feel by changing the way you think - it's easier than you'd expect.

That's good advice right there. Sounds like it draws from cognitive behavioural techniques, which are pretty sensible things in themselves (and not taught as standard, to my knowledge).

.. from a clip on Aussie news. Looks like high-quality stuff. I'm going to dig in over lunch.

Xbox 360: baby blue and baby pink controllers coming

Oh vom, vom, vom:

Microsoft will be bringing out a range of coloured Xbox 360 wireless controllers next month. Speaking at the Microsoft Hardware Day, a spokesperson claimed that the addition of a baby blue and baby pink controller to the line-up was to "increase appeal to the growing female market"
Article_img

Joe is quite right when he thinks this is "a little preposterous". I'm all for other colours - why not? - but to be quite so unimaginative and stereotypical is a real pity, especially for the 360 which hasn't done a terrible job of shedding its black-and-green-stinky-basement image.

Dear Msoft, can I suggest: sage green, pale gold, polka dots, maybe a sweet orange, and black with white piping?

How about a range designed by some artists? How about flipping through the pantone book and picking some wildcards? How about getting Etsy people to suggest something? How about using different textures? Running a competition to get players to design some new colours or looks? Seriously. How hard can it be, you have to ask...

MIT's Master Chief prank

Old news now, but I love this so much.

Johnharvardhalo

That there is John Harvard.. in Harvard Yard, at Harvard. Wearing a Master Chief helmet. Brings a joyful tear to the eye, that does.

Girl game tats

A rash of Master Chief tattoos is probably likely in the next few weeks, and here's one for starters - and on a lady!

Halolady

Here's a pretty Zelda tat, on a slim and hairless leg (although it could be a boy leg, obviously):

Okay. Prepare yourself for this one: it looks a bit sore.

Kids, Teens & VWs

Virtual Worlds, not veedubs.

Virtual worlds are becoming more frequent destinations as the percentage of children and teens who use the Internet increases.

"For marketers trying reach kids and teens on social networking sites, there is a new game in town: virtual worlds," said Debra Aho Williamson, eMarketer senior analyst and author of the new report, Kids and Teens: Virtual Worlds Open New Universe.

"Of course, virtual worlds are not new, but the level of development activity, venture capital investment and consumer interest in virtual worlds is unprecedented," she said.

They have some interesting (US figs) projections, too.
