Movies: a total "crapshoot"

Hollywood seems to live like it might get sacked tomorrow, and you can see why - collectively, movie companies really have no clue about what works:

It's always curious to come across folk who state that quality is an issue in user-generated content. Quality is also an issue in bigmedia-generated content, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise ...

I'm not sure box office revenue per film is a very useful metric. There is a huge range in the cost to make a film... a movie that grosses $10M could be a big money maker while a movie that pulls in $20M could be losing tons of money. ROI would make for a more useful chart.
