Right Hand Man wanted

Women in Games. Half uber-academic (I haven't understood most of it) and half good topical discourse. The general consensus seems to be that there are plenty of games out there that appeal to women, and there are plenty more women playing than are acknowledged.

But there are still also plenty of idiotic things we have to push against, like this Right Hand Man job ad, live right now:

Righthandman

The actual full advert, if you click on More, sounds like the sort of job a lady could do with her eyes shut, especially when you factor in the platforms they're talking about.

Righthandman02

You can see it here.

A female developer here told me a story about Burnout. Burnout performs excellently with female players, and yet the marketing blokes at the Burnout studio decided the best way to present the game was to cover a car with bikini'd girls scratching up the car because they'd "lost their boyfriends to Burnout".

Ho hum :)

Luckily, the marketing is changing. I've talked about this a lot: the Wii, the DS, the appleisation of the consoles.. it's all good. It'll take a while though, we have 20 years' worth of bad marketing to erase the bitter taste of. Bad marketing.. and bad job requirements.

The whole website is as bad though. If you go to the main page - first thing you see is cartoon drawings of interestingly drawn women.

Yeah cool post!!!
