Lord of the Rings Online are hosting a design-a-cloak contest. There's a template, you colour it in - the winning cloak gets featured in the game. I suppose a Joseph-style technicolour dreamcoat would stick out a bit, but you never know. Maybe they're feeling adventurous.
The head of MTV Networks just got off stage, and said quite a lot about the repositioning, and "re-energising", of the MTV brand. He showed lots of MTV promo vids/adverts, which I can't reproduce here, but I can more or less repro what he said. To a degree, anyway.
Most interesting point - MTV are launching a comedy channel...
This is weird on so many levels: the blatant ripoff of Nintendogs, right down to the promo art. The use of kawaii in an English sentence. The borrowing from My Little Pony. It's a good thing they're giving a small donation to charity for every download of the game they get..
Codemasters have solved the problem of dance
y-gamers wanting to dance to tunes of their own choice, rather than humming and hawing between S Club 7 and Motorhead (Lemmy every time thank you very much).
Don't ask me how they've done it - no idea - but the women_dev list poster claims that it works really very well. Dance Factory - out now:
I never got past level one of DDR for this very reason, the music was so rotten. (Thanks Jo!)
How about this: 18 months later and in a perfect hatred-to-lurve switcheroo, Marvel have now teamed up with Cryptic to produce a massively multiplayer superhero MMO baby for PC and Xbox 360. There's a rom-com in that, I swear.
The game, tentatively titled Marvel Universe Online will release for both the Xbox 360 and the PC platform and is expected to take advantage of Microsoft's Live Anywhere infrastructure.
1Up goes on to worry about how users will input text for chat purposes with no keyboard, and whether we'll be able to streamline the UI like we currently can in World of Warcraft. This game is unlikely to see the light of day for at least three years, and I'm guessing they'll have bigger things to worry about by then, like how to manage RealFace customisation, or how many user-generated voice mods can be uploaded for LiveVoice modulation, or how to map spellcasts to gestural movements for the Xbox 360 DigiFingaz wireless glove controllers...
