Indie game lovers rejoice: Hyperbol has gone into public beta.
Made by just four buddies in their basement, Hyperbol seems to be a primo specimen of thoughtful, experimental work, done for love and future glory. The chaps don't even have enough cash to do audience testing, so the open beta is their way of getting feedback, both of the technical kind and the "omg will they like it?" kind.
Ahh, youthful risk!
“It took us a while, but we're finally ready to show the world how this game plays. Our closed beta testers really helped us to fine tune and polish several aspects of the game. They're really looking forward to open beta so more people can see how great this game is.” said Jason Fader, Iocaine's President and Lead Designer of ThreadSpace: Hyperbol. “Open beta will test the waters a bit for us. It will help us see how much the game can handle and how large of an interest gamers have in the game. We're just a team of 4 friends that left our jobs to do what we love, so it's a bit difficult for us to gauge those factors on our own without funding. We're hoping the open beta will show us what we need in order to have a successful launch.”
From the promo vid, it looks like the game is a bit of multiplayer Asteroids combined with a bit of Eve and a bit of WipeOut and a bit of pinball...
One thing's for sure, it's bloody impressive for having been developed by just four people, especially in this day and age of multi-million dollar Hollywoodesque budgets. I'm right behind it.

Nice, guys! You beat out Blues News! Since they've been sitting on their thumbs while the bloggers get the word out. So far, the turnout has been amazing, and almost nothing but positive feedback! I hope we see more of you in there come tomarrow!

I suppose I should've guessed, but it seems to be Windows only. Let me know how it all goes :-)

Nice blog on the game :) short and to the point! I am surprised at just how addictive this game has been for me. Thumbs up for originality!

Game is very close to release date of 7/12/07. Time limited demo version of game is available to all via Steam. This game is a winner and a community of active players is rapidly forming. Worth checking out if you are tired of the usual free-for-all nonsense of Counter-Strike et al - if your are not a good team player, you will not succeed at Hyperbol.
