M$oft buys up World Cyber Games

Microsoft has sauntered into the World Cyber Games, snapped up a few years' worth of sponsorship, slammed down a ton of XBoxen and Windows PCs, ousted any Other Consoles or Other OSes from taking part (by way of being the Exclusive Premier Sponsor) and generally taken over the long-running and curiously meek World Cyber Games, at least for the next coupla years.

To be honest, it was very needed. The WCG insists on calling its gaming tourneys "e-sports" (gag), and does fairly well in Korea but is a little weak globally. Hell, it still has Cyber in its name, too. It needed an overhaul. Yes, this may mean that it eventually ends up being called something like Microsoft Gaming World Championships 2007-2016, but .. well, Peter Moore wasn't kidding when he said they were going to back the PC as a gaming platform, and then some.

With M$oft money, this should push the pr0-gaming circuit to the next level. I'm expecting a television coverage announcement any minute now...

Yeah I guess all the thousands of hit titles written for OSX will be left out in the cold ...
